DIN connector

nounStandard termElectronics

A family of circular electrical connectors standardized by the German Institute for Standardization.

These connectors feature a specific arrangement of pins enclosed in a protective metal skirt to ensure proper alignment and shielding. Originally developed for audio equipment, they became widely adopted for older computer keyboards, MIDI interfaces, and industrial controls. The physical layout varies by pin count and angle spacing, requiring exact matching between male and female ends.

Heard on the job

The old test rig still uses a 5-pin DIN connector for the serial interface, so we need to build an adapter.
