BNC connector

nounStandard termElectronics

A quick-disconnect RF connector used for terminating coaxial cables.

A Bayonet Neill-Concelman connector designed to terminate coaxial cables while maintaining the cable's characteristic impedance, usually 50 or 75 ohms. The design keeps the center conductor isolated from the outer shield and locks securely with a quarter-turn bayonet mount, making it standard on oscilloscopes and signal generators.

Heard on the job

The BNC connector on this probe is loose, causing intermittent signal loss on channel one.
