Cartridge ejector

nounStandard termElectronics

A mechanical linkage or spring-loaded assembly that pushes a removable media cartridge out of its slot.

A mechanism built into drives or consoles to safely disengage and expel a physical memory or media cartridge. It typically uses a lever, cam, or motorized gear train to overcome the friction of the electrical connector pins without damaging them. Proper ejectors ensure the user does not yank the cartridge at an angle and bend the internal contacts.

Heard on the job

The cartridge ejector is jammed, so don't try to pull the game out with pliers or you'll rip the edge connector right off the board.
