The factory-programmed settings, logic states, or configuration values that a component or system reverts to when initialized or when no alternative instruction is provided. In digital logic, this often dictates the pull-up or pull-down state of an input pin before firmware takes active control.
If the I2C bus hangs, pull the reset pin low to force the chip back to its default state.
