One of the connection points on a rectifier transformer's secondary winding that sets the output voltage. Most units have a coarse tap bar and a fine tap bar labelled with letters and numbers, and techs move the links between them to step output up or down. Raising the tap is the first fix for low readings; dropping it fixes overprotection and interference complaints.
Bumped the rec from tap C3 to C4, output went from 12 to 15 amps, recheck the low posts tomorrow.

Transformer-rectifier unit that turns AC power into adjustable DC current for an impressed current CP system.
Shunt
Precision low-resistance resistor in a CP circuit, used to measure current from the voltage across it.
Overprotection
So much cathodic current that potentials get too negative, risking coating damage and hydrogen problems.
Low
CP tech shorthand for a potential that is not negative enough to meet the protection criterion.
