HDA

abbreviationStandard termCorrosion

Hot-dip aluminization is a coating process that dips steel into molten aluminum to prevent high-temperature corrosion.

Hot-dip aluminization (HDA) is a metallurgical coating process where steel components are submerged in a bath of molten aluminum. This creates a tightly bonded intermetallic layer that provides excellent resistance to oxidation and sulfidation at elevated temperatures. It is frequently used for refinery piping, exhaust systems, and heat exchangers operating in environments where standard zinc galvanizing would melt or fail.

Heard on the job

Make sure the spec calls for HDA on those exhaust stacks since they'll be running at 1200 degrees.
