This chemical conversion process immerses steel into a heated phosphoric acid solution containing zinc or manganese salts. The reaction creates a crystalline phosphate layer bound directly to the base metal. It provides a porous, textured base that holds paint or lubricants tightly while resisting under-film corrosion.
The spec calls for bonderization before we apply the powder coat to ensure it sticks.
