Slab hut

nounStandard termBuilding

A rustic building constructed from rough-split timber slabs set vertically or horizontally.

A slab hut is an early or improvised style of timber framing where the walls are made of thick, unrefined slabs of wood split directly from logs. The slabs are typically dropped into grooved top and bottom plates or nailed directly to a rough frame. This construction method is historically significant in pioneer building and is still referenced in rural or heritage carpentry.
