A radio callsign and nickname for the Douglas A-1 Skyraider during the Vietnam War.

Sandy is the historic tactical callsign and enduring nickname for the A-1 Skyraider, a rugged, single-engine, propeller-driven attack aircraft. During the Vietnam War, these heavily armed planes were primarily used for close air support and combat search and rescue missions. Their ability to carry massive bomb loads and loiter over downed pilots for hours made them legendary among combat aviators.
