Loiter

verbStandard termAviation

To remain airborne over a specific area or target for an extended period.

Aircraft maintain a holding pattern or circle a designated coordinate to maximize time on station. This maneuver is used by military aircraft waiting for target clearance, search and rescue planes scanning an area, or drones conducting surveillance. It requires managing airspeed and fuel consumption to achieve maximum endurance rather than maximum range.

We have enough fuel to loiter over the objective for another forty minutes before we need to bingo.
