RT
RT turns up in 2 fields: welding, textiles. Here is what it means to the people in each one.
RT in welding
Radiographic testing: imaging a weld's interior with X-rays or gamma rays on film or a digital detector.
Radiographic testing, in which X-rays or a gamma source such as iridium-192 pass through the weld onto film or a digital detector, recording internal discontinuities as density differences. It shows volumetric flaws like porosity, slag and incomplete penetration well, and planar flaws like lack of fusion only when they line up with the beam. Image quality indicators verify sensitivity, and the area is cleared during exposures.
"RT crew shoots tonight after nine, everybody's off the rack by then."
RT in textiles
A knitting instruction to perform a right twist stitch.
Right twist. A technique where two stitches are crossed without using a cable needle, leaning to the right. The knitter typically knits two stitches together but leaves them on the needle, then knits the first stitch again before slipping both off.
"Work the border in a 1x1 rib until the marker, then RT, purl 2, and continue in pattern."
