PMT
PMT turns up in 2 fields: powder coating, electronics. Here is what it means to the people in each one.
PMT in powder coating
Part metal temperature, the temperature of the substrate itself, which is what actually drives the cure.
Part metal temperature is measured with a thermocouple clamped or magnetically attached to the part, usually at its thickest section. Powder cures by PMT and time at that temperature, so a 400 F oven can fail to cure a heavy casting that only reaches 360 F. PMT readings come from an oven profile run or a probe at the oven exit.
"Air is 425 but PMT on the thick flange only reached 365, they're undercured."
PMT in electronics
A photomultiplier tube used to detect and amplify extremely weak light signals.
Photomultiplier tube. A vacuum tube device that detects single photons of light and multiplies the resulting electron emission through a series of dynodes. This cascading effect provides massive signal gain, making the device sensitive enough to detect individual photons. They are widely used in medical imaging, astronomy, and high-end analytical instrumentation.
"We had to shield the PMT carefully because even stray ambient light will saturate the sensor."
