Flush
Flush turns up in 2 fields: mining, shop slang. Here is what it means to the people in each one.
Flush in mining
To fill empty underground workings with waste material carried in by water.
To pump a slurry of water and waste material, such as sand or mill tailings, into excavated underground voids. Once the water drains away, the remaining material forms a dense, compact mass that supports the surrounding rock. This method helps prevent surface subsidence and safely disposes of waste material that would otherwise require surface storage.
"After we pull the last pillars from that block, we'll flush the stope with cemented paste backfill to stabilize the ground."
Flush in shop slang
Having an abundant supply of money, materials, or resources.
A temporary state of having plenty of cash, budget, or inventory on hand. In a workplace context, a department might be flush with budget at the start of the quarter, allowing them to buy new tools or approve overtime. It indicates a brief period of abundance where financial or material constraints are lifted, often leading to rapid spending before the surplus runs out.
"We're flush with budget this month, so go ahead and order those replacement drill bits."
