Picoampere

unitStandard termUnits

A unit of electrical current equal to one trillionth of an ampere.

A picoampere is an extremely small measurement of electrical current representing one trillionth of an amp. It quantifies the flow of just a few million electrons per second. Electronic engineers and physicists measure picoamperes when testing highly sensitive semiconductor components, photodetectors, or measuring biological ion channels.

Heard on the job

We need to shield the test rig carefully because the leakage current is down in the low picoampere range.
