A customary unit of energy equal to the work done by one horsepower over one hour.

A customary unit of energy or work representing the output of one mechanical horsepower sustained for one hour. It is equivalent to exactly 1,980,000 foot-pounds of force, or roughly 2.68 megajoules. Mechanical engineers and engine builders use it to calculate the total energy capacity of prime movers, fuel efficiency, and heavy equipment performance over a duty cycle.
