Exametre

unitStandard termUnits

A massive unit of length equal to one quintillion metres, used for interstellar distances.

One exametre equals 10^18 metres, or roughly 105.7 light-years. Astronomers and astrophysicists use it to measure the vast distances between stars and across galactic structures. Because a single exametre spans more than a hundred light-years, it provides a convenient scale for mapping out the local interstellar neighborhood without relying on enormous integer values.

Heard on the job

The nearest star-forming region sits about four exametres away from our solar system.
