Bond coat and buildup material made of nickel and aluminum, commonly 95/5 or 80/20, as clad powder or wire. In the gun the aluminum reacts exothermically with the nickel, so particles arrive extra hot and bond well even to surfaces with a modest profile, which is why it is called self-bonding. It sits under ceramics and carbides and is also used for dimensional buildup.
Shoot 0.004 of nickel aluminum bond first, then the alumina-titania on top.
