A standalone, battery-powered access point deployed in environments with intermittent connectivity. It acts as an intermediate storage node in a delay-tolerant network. Mobile nodes pass data to the throwbox when they are in range, and the throwbox holds the packets until another mobile node or a backhaul link becomes available to forward them to their destination.
