Multiprocessor

nounStandard termTelecom & IT

A computer system containing multiple processing units that share memory and peripherals under a single operating system.

A hardware architecture that links two or more physical CPUs or execution cores to work together on computational tasks. The processors share access to the main system memory and input/output buses. This allows the system to execute multiple threads simultaneously, dramatically increasing throughput for complex server workloads and database operations.
