Degree

nounStandard termSurveying

A measure of curvature for a circular arc based on the angle subtended by a standard length of chord or arc.

In route surveying and highway design, this value defines the sharpness of a curve. The arc definition uses the central angle subtended by a one-hundred-foot arc, while the chord definition uses a one-hundred-foot chord. A higher number indicates a sharper, tighter turn, which dictates safe speeds and road alignments in the field.
