A mechanical edge finder or center finder used in machining to align a spindle.

A machinist's tool used in a milling machine or drill press to accurately locate the edge of a workpiece or a center punch mark. It features a pointed or spherical tip held by spring tension. As the spindle turns, the tip wobbles or wriggles until it makes perfect contact with the edge, at which point it suddenly kicks out of alignment.
