Light rail

nounStandard termRailroad

An urban electric passenger railway operating single cars or short trains, often sharing street space.

A metropolitan transit system that uses electrically powered railcars drawing from overhead wires. It bridges the gap between traditional streetcars and heavy rapid transit, operating on a mix of exclusive rights-of-way and embedded street trackage. These systems use lighter equipment and tighter turning radii than mainline railroads.
