Digital press

nounStandard termPrinting

A heavy-duty printing machine that images directly from a digital file onto paper.

A commercial printing machine that transfers images directly from a computer file to the substrate without the need for intermediate printing plates. These machines typically use electrophotography (toner) or high-speed inkjet technology. They allow for variable data printing, where every sheet can contain different text or images, and are highly cost-effective for short production runs.

Heard on the job

We'll run the 500-copy batch on the digital press to save on plate costs, but the long run has to go on the offset web.
