A microdoublet pairs two distinct microscopic lens elements to correct for optical aberrations in highly constrained spaces, such as inside endoscopes or on-chip photonic devices. They are often manufactured by combining a solid lithographically etched lens with a polymer or liquid-filled lens. This allows designers to achieve achromatic performance at millimeter or sub-millimeter scales.
Heard on the job
The new catheter imaging probe uses a microdoublet to clear up the chromatic aberration we saw in the single-lens design.
