Achromaticity

nounStandard termPhotonics

The degree to which an optical system avoids chromatic dispersion.

The state or quality of being free from chromatic aberration. In optical design, achromaticity quantifies how well a lens or system brings multiple wavelengths to a common focus. Engineers measure this to verify that broadband pulses will not suffer spatial distortion as they propagate through a lens train.

Heard on the job

We verified the achromaticity of the telescope by checking the focal spot size at both 532 and 1064 nanometers.
