Achromatic

adjectiveStandard termPhotonics

Free from color separation or wavelength-dependent focal shift.

Describes an optical system or component that transmits or focuses light without dispersing it into its constituent colors. An achromatic system ensures that light of at least two different wavelengths shares the exact same focal plane. This property is vital when working with tunable lasers or broadband pulses, where focal shift would ruin beam quality or coupling efficiency.

Make sure the entire beam delivery path is achromatic, or our pump and signal will focus at different depths.
