A solution of polyethylene in solvent is released through a spinneret into lower pressure, where the solvent evaporates instantly and the polymer forms a three-dimensional network of very fine, connected fibrils. These are laid down and bonded into a tough, paper-like sheet. Flashspun material is strong and light, holds out liquid water while passing vapor, and goes into house wrap, envelopes, protective garments and medical packaging.
Flashspun samples beat our SMS on tear, but they cost twice as much per square meter.
