Cold work

verbStandard termMetallurgy

To plastically deform a metal at temperatures below its recrystallization point to alter its properties.

To deform a metal plastically at temperatures well below its recrystallization point, typically at room temperature. This process alters the crystalline grain structure of the metal, increasing its yield strength and hardness while simultaneously reducing its ductility.
