To treat a metal surface using an electrical current in a chemical bath to alter its properties or appearance.

To apply an electrochemical process to a metal part, either to deposit a thin layer of another metal or to selectively remove material for a smoother surface. The workpiece is submerged in an electrolyte solution and connected to a power supply, acting as either the anode or cathode depending on whether the goal is polishing or plating.
