FDM

abbreviationStandard termProduction

Fused deposition modeling is an additive manufacturing process that builds parts by extruding melted plastic.

Fused deposition modeling (FDM) builds a three-dimensional object layer by layer using a continuous filament of thermoplastic material. A heated nozzle melts the filament and deposits it along a programmed path, where it cools and solidifies instantly. It is widely used for rapid prototyping, jigs, fixtures, and low-volume production parts.
