Bed

nounStandard termProduction

The flat, stationary base of a machine tool or 3D printer where work is mounted.

The primary structural foundation of a machine tool, press, or 3D printer. It provides a rigid, flat surface to support the workpiece, fixtures, or moving axes during operation. In machining, a heavy cast-iron bed absorbs vibration, while in additive manufacturing, a heated bed ensures the first layer of plastic adheres properly.
