Armstrong method

nounShop talkMachine Shop

Shop joke for doing a job by muscle power alone, with no power feed, hoist or machine help.

Strong-arm work dressed up as a proper technique: cranking a manual handwheel for a long cut, lifting a vise without the crane, or moving parts with a pry bar. Machine tools without power feed get called Armstrong-equipped. The joke usually comes with the recommendation to find the hoist.
