Pedestal coil

nounStandard termHVAC

A configuration of heat exchange piping stacked vertically and supported by a base structure.

A heat exchanger design where straight runs of finned or bare tubing are stacked vertically and connected by U-bends, all mounted on a supportive base. This arrangement is commonly used in older industrial radiators, dry coolers, and certain custom air handlers to maximize surface area within a specific footprint. The pedestal elevates the coil to ensure proper airflow and drainage.

The pedestal coil on that old chiller is completely corroded at the bottom bends from sitting in standing water.
