Overstand

verbStandard termForestry

To leave a timber stand unharvested past its optimal economic or biological rotation age.

A stand is overstood when trees are left to grow beyond their peak merchantable value or health. Overstanding can lead to a decline in growth rates, increased susceptibility to disease and insect damage, and a higher percentage of defective wood like heart rot.
