Unground

verbStandard termElectrotechnology

To deliberately remove the electrical connection between a circuit and the earth.

To unground a system is to disconnect its neutral or reference point from the earth mass. This is usually done during maintenance to isolate a section of plant, or permanently in specific IT systems where floating the circuit prevents a single earth fault from tripping the power. The process requires strict safety protocols to ensure no residual charge remains.
