Mesh

nounStandard termElectrotechnology

A closed loop in an electrical circuit that contains no other loops inside it.

A fundamental concept in circuit theory representing a single, indivisible closed path for current flow. Unlike a general loop, a mesh cannot have any smaller internal paths. It is the basic unit used to set up Kirchhoff's Voltage Law equations to solve for unknown voltages and currents in complex planar networks.

Heard on the job

We've three meshes in this secondary circuit, so we need a three-by-three matrix to solve it.
