Connecting components in series means wiring them in a single, continuous path. The total voltage across the circuit is divided among the components, while the electrical current remains identical through every part. If one component fails open, the entire circuit path is broken.
Wire those three LEDs in series so we can drive them with a single constant-current source.
Beginners often forget that adding batteries in series increases voltage, but adding capacitors in series decreases total capacitance.
