EC (edge combiner) is a digital circuit block used to multiply clock frequencies. It takes multiple phase-shifted outputs from a delay-locked loop (DLL) or phase-locked loop (PLL) and combines their rising or falling edges into a single, higher-frequency output signal. This technique is often used in high-speed memory interfaces and radio-frequency synthesizers to generate precise, high-speed clocks without requiring an extremely fast internal oscillator.

The DLL feeds four phases into the EC to generate the 2 GHz clock for the output serializer.
