MTF stands for Mississippi Test Facility, the original designation for what is known as the John C. Stennis Space Center. NASA built this massive site to test the enormous F-1 and J-2 engines of the Saturn V rockets before flying them. Engineers rely on its massive concrete test stands and surrounding acoustic buffer zone to safely fire up large liquid-propellant rocket stages.
