LUCAS

abbreviationStandard termAviation

A low-cost uncrewed combat attack system is an expendable or attritable military drone.

These autonomous or remotely piloted aircraft are designed for strike missions where the risk of losing the airframe is high. They are manufactured using cheaper materials and commercial off-the-shelf components to keep unit costs down. Military planners use them to overwhelm air defenses or deliver payloads in highly contested airspace without risking human pilots.
