A number, written as a decimal or percentage, that adjusts payment for a lot of mix based on how well it met the spec. A pay factor of 1.04 earns a 4 percent bonus on that tonnage while 0.90 cuts payment by 10 percent, and below a set threshold the lot is removed and replaced. Pay factors are built from results such as density, air voids, binder content and smoothness, often combined through PWL.
Composite pay factor on the job was 1.03, so the density bonus paid for that extra roller and then some.
