SMS
SMS turns up in 2 fields: nonwovens, maritime. Here is what it means to the people in each one.
SMS in nonwovens
Spunbond-meltblown-spunbond: a three-layer composite of strong spunbond outer layers around a meltblown barrier core.
Short for spunbond-meltblown-spunbond, it is made in line on a multi-beam spunmelt machine and bonded with a point calender. The spunbond layers carry strength and abrasion resistance while the meltblown layer supplies hydrohead and filtration. Variants add beams, such as SMMS or SSMMS, and SMS is the standard fabric for surgical gowns, drapes, sterilization wrap and diaper leg cuffs.
"Barrier leg cuffs are SMS at 13 gsm, and the customer checks hydrohead on every lot."

Seiner Majestät Schiff is the historic German naval prefix for His Majesty's Ship.
Seiner Majestät Schiff is the historic ship prefix used by the Imperial German Navy, equivalent to HMS in the British Royal Navy. It appeared before the names of surface warships, submarines, and torpedo boats during the imperial era. Naval historians and model makers use it to distinguish imperial German vessels from later eras like the Kriegsmarine.
"I'm building a scale model of the SMS Emden as she looked before the battle."
