PCC
PCC turns up in 2 fields: paper optics, logistics. Here is what it means to the people in each one.
PCC in paper optics
Precipitated calcium carbonate: a synthetic filler, often made beside the mill, that raises brightness and opacity.
Short for precipitated calcium carbonate, it is grown by bubbling carbon dioxide through lime slurry, frequently in a satellite plant next to the paper machine using the mill's own flue gas. Crystal shape can be tuned, and scalenohedral PCC gives especially high light scattering and bulk. It requires neutral or alkaline papermaking, because acid dissolves carbonate.
"PCC satellite was down overnight, so we ran GCC and lost almost a point of opacity."
PCC in logistics
A code identifying a specific travel agency location within a global distribution system.
PCC stands for Pseudo-City Code. It is a unique alphanumeric identifier assigned to a travel agency or ticketing office by a Global Distribution System (GDS). The code dictates which airline inventory, negotiated fares, and ticketing rules the agency can access.
"Make sure you're logged into the correct PCC before issuing those corporate tickets, or the negotiated discount won't apply."
