OTA
OTA turns up in 2 fields: shop slang, electronics. Here is what it means to the people in each one.
OTA in shop slang
Over-the-air delivery of software or firmware updates to equipment.
Over-the-air. A method of distributing new software, configuration settings, or encryption keys to devices wirelessly. Technicians and fleet managers rely on OTA updates to patch bugs or upgrade features on remote equipment without needing physical access or a hardwired connection.
"The diagnostic tool is locked out until it finishes pulling the OTA update."
OTA in electronics
An amplifier whose differential input voltage controls an output current.
Operational transconductance amplifier. A voltage-to-current amplifier where the output current is proportional to the voltage difference between its inputs. Unlike a standard op-amp, an OTA has a high-impedance output and its transconductance can often be controlled by an external bias current, making it highly useful for voltage-controlled filters and amplifiers.
"We used an OTA in the synthesizer design so we could easily sweep the filter cutoff with a control voltage."
