MPO
MPO turns up in 2 fields: fiber optics, aviation. Here is what it means to the people in each one.
MPO in fiber optics
Multi-fiber Push-On: a single connector that terminates 8, 12, 16 or 24 fibers in one rectangular ferrule.
Multi-fiber Push-On, a connector built around a rectangular MT ferrule holding a row or two of fibers, aligned by two steel guide pins on the male side fitting holes on the female side. It is the trunk connector of data centers and the native interface on parallel optics such as 40G and 100G SR4. Gender, key orientation and polarity method must all match or the link fails.
"Trunk shows pinned on both ends, we need an unpinned MPO jumper or an unpinned cassette, pin against pin will wreck the faces."
MPO in aviation
Mercury Planetary Orbiter, a European Space Agency spacecraft designed to map Mercury.
This module is a primary component of the joint European and Japanese BepiColombo mission. It carries a suite of cameras, spectrometers, and radiometers to study the surface morphology and interior composition of Mercury. To survive the intense solar radiation deep in the inner solar system, the spacecraft relies on high-temperature multilayer insulation and a specialized radiator system pointed away from the sun.
"The MPO will separate from the transfer module right before orbital insertion around Mercury."
