Crud
Crud turns up in 2 fields: nuclear, telecom & it. Here is what it means to the people in each one.
Crud in nuclear
Corrosion products that deposit on fuel and in reactor piping, become radioactive and drive most plant dose.
Insider word for corrosion products of iron, nickel and cobalt that circulate in the reactor coolant, deposit on fuel cladding where neutrons activate them, then redeposit in piping, valves and steam generators. Activated crud, mainly cobalt-58 and cobalt-60, sets dose rates around primary systems. Chemists manage it with coolant pH, zinc injection and controlled crud bursts during shutdown, when oxidising chemistry releases deposits that cleanup systems then remove.
"Crud burst is coming off on the peroxide addition, cobalt-58 is climbing, keep both demins in service."
CRUD in telecom & it
The four basic operations required for a complete persistent storage application.
Create, Read, Update, and Delete are the foundational functions of any database or data-driven application. If an API or interface is described this way, it means it provides standard, straightforward data manipulation without complex business logic. Developers use this acronym to quickly categorize simple administrative interfaces or basic data models.
"We don't need a massive custom backend for the user directory, just a simple CRUD app will get the job done."
