CDR

CDR turns up in 2 fields: electronics, telecom & it. Here is what it means to the people in each one.

Electronics & Semiconductors

CDR in electronics

The current divider rule is a formula calculating how electrical current splits across parallel branches.

The current divider rule determines the fraction of total current flowing through one branch of a parallel circuit. The current through a specific branch is inversely proportional to its resistance compared to the total equivalent resistance. It is a fundamental principle used to size resistors and predict current flow without solving the entire circuit using nodal analysis.

"Use the CDR to figure out how much of the 5 amps is actually going through the shunt resistor."

Telecom, Networking & IT

CDR in telecom & it

A data record produced by a telephone exchange containing the details of a specific call.

Call Detail Recording is the log generated by a PBX or telecom switch for every phone call passing through it. It captures the metadata of the transaction, including the source and destination numbers, start time, duration, and the specific trunk used. Telecom providers and IT departments use these records for billing, capacity planning, and auditing abuse.

"Pull the CDR for that extension and see how many international calls they made last night."
