Voice over broadband routes standard telephone calls through a consumer internet connection rather than traditional copper phone lines. An analog telephone adapter converts the analog voice signals into digital packets for transmission over a cable or DSL modem. It functions identically to VoIP but specifically describes consumer-grade services bundled with home internet access.
