Frequency band

nounStandard termTelecom & IT

A defined contiguous range of radio frequencies allocated for a specific purpose.

A specific, continuous segment of the electromagnetic spectrum defined by an upper and lower frequency limit. Regulatory agencies divide the spectrum into bands to organize different types of communications, such as maritime radio, cellular data, or satellite telemetry. Equipment is usually engineered with antennas and filters tuned to operate efficiently only within a designated frequency band.
