Failures in time, the number of failures expected in 10 to the 9th device-hours of operation. A part rated at 10 FIT would see one failure across 100 million device-hours, roughly 11,400 parts running for a year. Because FIT rates add for components in series, designers sum them to get a board or system failure rate, and for a constant rate the MTTF in hours is 10 to the 9th divided by the FIT value.
Soft error rate is 400 FIT per megabit on the old SRAM. Multiply by array size and the server team will want ECC.
